This The One Minute series is curated by Goys & Birls as part of their publication project NXS. NXS—standing for nexus (a connection or bond)— is an experimental, printed publication that explores 'the self' in the age of digital technology and technology-mediated relationships. The second issue gathers theorists, artists, scientists and digital natives to investigate the creation of Synthetic Selves.
This series will be premiered during several NXS release events in Europe at the end of Fall 2017 and screened by The One Minutes' partners around the world.
Synthetic SelvesDigital technologies require us to reinvent, exaggerate and create avatars of the self, where the "I" is replaced by a multitude of "I's". These "I's" are Synthetic Selves, constructed characters in a gap between reality and fiction, existing in a morphing virtual environment, taking on the form of reality, fulfillment, power, success, love.
This open call is an invitation to explore new visual narratives of staging, creating, imagining, reinventing, embodying and synthesizing oneselves.Design by Goys & Birls
